Philosophy

Many boundaries are useful to keep us safe and healthy. But some boundaries serve to keep us isolated and stuck in one mindset or way of living.  I believe that meaningful cultural experiences and exposure to various histories, people, places, art, objects and perspectives can push us past our most stubborn limits. By releasing the margins of our thoughts and interactions we can move toward more understanding, tolerance and compassion – in ideology, in cultural views, in politics, in work, in relationships, in health and in love.

Travel is one high impact way to achieve this immersion and release. Visiting museums, and art, cultural and historical sites is another way to expand our boundaries close to home and afar. During this time of profound polarization and isolation, I believe these public locations can serve as centers for civic engagement and foster much needed interpersonal connection.
